Air New Zealand: History and facts
Air New Zealand’s roots can be traced back to 1940, where they got their start under the name TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited). During this time they operated Short Empire flying boats on Trans-Tasman routes, and began operating weekly flights from Auckland to Sydney after World War II. In 1965, the carrier became nationalized, and the name was changed to Air New Zealand.
